She wrote a beautiful poem about being down here which she recited at Folk Night. <\/p>\n<p>ANTARCTICA<\/p>\n<p>To be here, to come here<br \/>\nThis place with its view<br \/>\nMeans so little to so many<br \/>\nBut so much to so few<\/p>\n<p>Who\u2019ve been here, who\u2019ve seen it<br \/>\nWho\u2019ve felt it and lived it<br \/>\nWho\u2019ve kept it inside them<br \/>\nAnd can\u2019t live without it<\/p>\n<p>Who know its uniqueness<br \/>\nIts whiteness, its bleakness<br \/>\nWho crave its togetherness<br \/>\nAnd love its remoteness<\/p>\n<p>Who live with the secret<br \/>\nThat others can\u2019t know<br \/>\nThat this place is special<br \/>\nMore than rocks, ice and snow<\/p>\n<p>But a world in its own right<br \/>\nThat floods all the senses<br \/>\nSuch that nothing else matters<br \/>\nOutside of its fences <\/p>\n<p>And each day I wake up<br \/>\nAnd feel it take hold<br \/>\nThere\u2019s beauty in isolation<br \/>\nAnd the warmth in the cold<\/p>\n<p>And I know I\u2019m in love<br \/>\nAs each time I depart<br \/>\nAll that I think of<br \/>\nWhilst we are apart<\/p>\n<p>Is the day I\u2019ll be back<br \/>\nOn this floating ice shelf<br \/>\nOr this snowy mountain<br \/>\nAnd I smile to myself<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tamsin is the science co-ordinator at Rothera.
