{"id":31,"date":"2007-10-30T21:24:07","date_gmt":"2007-10-31T05:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/?p=31"},"modified":"2007-12-11T01:19:23","modified_gmt":"2007-12-11T09:19:23","slug":"packing-list-for-milford-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/packing-list-for-milford-track\/","title":{"rendered":"Packing List for Milford Track"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img class=\"colorbox-31\"  loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" align=\"left\" width=\"256\" src=\"http:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/albums\/pictures\/milfordmusto.jpg\" height=\"318\" \/>I carried a 75litre backpack with the following items.<br \/>\nCooking Pots<br \/>\nlightweight eating utensils<br \/>\nPlastic water bottle (used as a hot water bottle and a mug)<br \/>\nSleeping bag<br \/>\nShirts: Poly T-Shirts 2 long sleeve<br \/>\nFleece: Lightweight Longsleeved Fleece Pull-over<br \/>\nThermal Shirt: Longsleeved Thermal Top<br \/>\nMini First-Aid Kit (moleskin &amp; ibuprofin)<br \/>\nMatches and a Lighter (for lighting the stoves in the huts)<br \/>\nWhistle, Space Blanket<br \/>\nEar Plugs (people snore!)<br \/>\nToothbrush\/toothpaste<br \/>\nPack of cards for in the hut<br \/>\nPen\/paper<br \/>\nLongjohns: I never got cold enough to wear them<br \/>\nUnderwear: 4 pairs<br \/>\nRain Gear: I took my Musto foul weather gear and was totally dry.<br \/>\nGaiters: Knee-high, cheap set (next time I wouldn&#8217;t take a set)<br \/>\nLightweight fleece hat<br \/>\nRain hat<br \/>\nMini-Flashlight\/batteries<br \/>\nBug repellent (take lots the sandflies are nasty)<br \/>\nZip-Lock Baggies\u00c2\u00a0for everything you don&#8217;t want to get wet and for carrying out garbage<br \/>\nBio-Degradable Dish Soap (though the huts all had plenty)<br \/>\nScrub Pad for Cook Kit (1\/3 of a sponge with a scrub top &#8211; again the huts all had plenty)<br \/>\nToliet Paper (the huts had them as did all the toilets along the track)<br \/>\nHiking shoes (it is necessary to have Vibram soles (stiff) I prefered these over my full hiking boots.)<br \/>\nSandals (for huts and stream crossings)<br \/>\nHiking Socks (4 pairs as they get wet and don&#8217;t dry)<br \/>\nSalopettes (I took my quick dry mid layer sailing salopettes and they were great for hiking in)<br \/>\nLoose fitting quick drying shorts<br \/>\nGloves: Windstopper Fleece (didn&#8217;t use them even in the snow over the pass)<br \/>\nOne large emergency meal (just in case you have an extra day on the track like we did)<br \/>\nNext time I would take fresh ingredients for the 1st nights meal as the walk into the first hut is only an 1.5 hour stroll.<br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t have a rain cover which I didn&#8217;t make sure everything is doublebagged in black plastic bags in fact even with a rain cover this is a good idea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I carried a 75litre backpack with the following items.
