{"id":926,"date":"2009-12-05T11:34:07","date_gmt":"2009-12-05T19:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/?p=926"},"modified":"2009-12-05T11:34:07","modified_gmt":"2009-12-05T19:34:07","slug":"palmer-and-larissa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/palmer-and-larissa\/","title":{"rendered":"Palmer and LARISSA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Very early this morning the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/od\/opp\/support\/nathpalm.jsp\">R\/V Palmer<\/a> tied up at the wharf to unload some science gear for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencepoles.org\/index.php?\/news\/larissa_project_to_examine_ice_shelf_ecosystems\/&#038;uid=1601\">LARISSA project<\/a>. The LARsen Ice Shelf System, Antarctica (LARISSA) project is an NSF-funded interdisciplinary project that will try to study as many aspects as possible of ice shelf ecosystems on the heels of the 2002 collapse of the Larsen B Ice Shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula. Last week an American twin otter came into base and will be based here for two months supporting the LARISSA project. A group of us spent the morning taking american&#8217;s from the ship for a tour of the base and also I manned the base store. They also got a tour of the aquarium and dive store courtesy of Mel and JJ. They were only on base for 4 hours while the crew of the ship unloaded containers, skidoos an science equipment. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/palmer-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"palmer\" title=\"palmer\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-927 colorbox-926\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/palmer-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.racingyachtmanagement.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/palmer.JPG 336w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This afternoon everyone is inside watching movies or going to the gym as a large low has come in bringing 40 knot winds and driving snow. This is when a nice indoor fireplace would be lovely. I am writing and working on organising my photos.
